A discussion recently took place in an industry Facebook group where someone asked if they really needed blog posts on their shop’s website. That discussion turned into a much broader discussion about SEO in general.

A very smart shop owner made the comment that SEO wasn’t important and that keyword-rich pages are no longer effective. His statement couldn’t have been more wrong and I later had the opportunity to challenge him on this podcast episode.

We find that many auto repair shops can rank “okay” for the most basic of searches like their business name, “auto repair shop”, and “mechanic near me” just by having a simple website and a complete Google Business Profile.
But stopping there can have you missing up to 60% of your relevant searches.

Not everybody searches for “mechanic near me”. Very often they search for more obscure terms like “Powerstroke injector replacement” or “shop that can work on cars with the new refrigerant”.

You don’t luck into getting found for those searches. This takes intentional work and content development on and off of your website.

Even the shops that rank “okay” for the most basic of terms will see vast improvements to those basic terms when being intentional about SEO.
